Book four of Woodward on the Bush presidency examines the President's decision making and how it led war in 2006 and the first half 2008. Writing is clear and precise. Woodward's observations and conclusions will stun the reader.
Woodward book opens with a gallery characters to help readers understand the key managers to make decisions of war. Woodward then takes the reader into a hard landing, then he talks about the growing violence in Iraq and how the generals on the ground, Casey and Abizaid, appeared insensitive to the fight, focusing more on "numbers" because that is what the president wanted to see.
While Casey and Abizaid are working to reduce its size, the conditions on the ground do their can not. In early 2006, President Bush is aware of the strategy does not work, but instead of pursuing the more traditional channels such as the Department of Defense or the Joint Chiefs of responses, their committees National Security Advisor, Stephen Hadley to a study to determine why the strategy war is failing and what can be done about it. Hadley follows this program through back channels of the door, the bipartisan Iraq Study Group consists five Democrats and five Republicans rank classification to determine what their war strategy and offer suggestions to correct.
During the summer of 2006, Hadley, and the study group, working independently, conducting interviews in much depth. He blames also things behind closed doors is retired General Jack Keane, who has a precision, laser Sharp, an understanding of Iraqi society, leadership, and that the United States can do to strengthen its strategy. Keane guides for key players in the game to a viable strategy might work. It inspires Keane to General Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs to convene a council of colonels to review the war effort the United States. Is Keane, who recommended General David Petraeus to take over from General Casey, and Keane, who has a side door "in" with Chaney and George W. Bush.
Bush's strategic vision by Hadley and the Iraq Study Group has finished in the same period, about six to seven months after it began. Most recommendations of the Bush team mirror the study group - including a surge. Unfortunately, as pointed out by Woodward Out, it took six to seven months for George W. Bush arrived for a change of strategy - something that should have happened in a more strict time. Another change is the result of pure partisan politics - Bush hopes after the elections in November 2006 and lost both houses of Congress to the Democrats to let Rumsfeld go, with the involvement if the Republicans kept the Congress, Mr. Rumsfeld would have stayed.
Bush held accountable to anyone - not Rumsfeld and Abizaid and Casey, who will each receive a promotion. Their lack a timetable for a new strategy extends destruction in Iraq. He may seek the advice instead of giving - Staff joint.
Writing Woodward is tight. It breaks the difficult subjects, so that the reader understands the situation and the consequences of action Bush. "The War Within" is a fascinating study of the President himself, his makeup, and the legacy they will leave the nation.

Do you think Jeff Gordon will Pearson at all-time wins list ...?
... or at least has 100 career wins before retirement? As a fan of Gordon, who I hope will achieve everything I can before he retires. Turning Allison, Waltrip and Yarborough should be a piece of cake. With its 81 victories to date, is 25 victories to pass David Pearson. There is no doubt that Jeff Gordon is able to do so. But entering 2009, had only 23 wins since 2002. So you think that Gordon will be able to pass Pearson for second on the all-time wins list? Give me your honest opinion, whether responding. I forgot to mention that David Pearson has 105 career victories. No, I am only Cup win.
I think he has a chance provided it can put things together and not have another year like this! Jeff's website said they thought it was wrong 60% of the time, so I hope you can get another 40% calculated?
